Despite his very much feminine name (Hotaru means firefly and is more of a female name), this guy is born with a short temper and very much confused. He's basically have split character when he achieves his bankai form. Hotaru controls fire. His zanpakuto has a very interesting history itself. Basically, Hotaru melted his original zanpakuto when he was still in the academy! Truth is, he was born with the ability to produce fire, and the sword was only a technique to concentrate his power into a sharp and easily targeted point. Unfortunately, there's hardly anything that could stand the extreme high temperature produced by his "White flame". Ever since, his zanpakuto becomes his own hands since the effect of his white flame can very much cut through all spiritual bodies.
His hair is originally black (and long) in shikai form, but turns white in bankai form.
